Eftersom jag arbetar med bibliotekets webb lyssnade jag igår in mig på en halvdagskonferens om webbtillgänglighetsfrågor inom högre utbildning (HE). Dagen visade sig handla mer om hur lärosäten arbetar med tillgänglighetsfrågorna i själva utbildningarna men det fanns ändå en hel del intressant att plocka med sig och vid flera tillfällen tyckte jag att frågorna kunde appliceras på arbete med informationskompetens.

Dagen anordnades av IAAP, International Association of Accessibility Professionals, och modererades av Susanna Laurin. Det konstaterades vid ett flertal tillfällen att behovet av tillgänglighetsexperter kommer att öka dramatiskt med “det nya” webbtillgänglighetsdirektivet,  miljontals webbsidor ska nu tillgänglighetsanpassas. Men många upplever även att det är positivt att tillgänglighetsfrågor nu hamnat i fokus.

Vi måste lära av varandra, samt inkludera webbtillgänglighet i HE så att studenter får med sig denna kompetens från start. IAAP har ett två-årigt Nordplusprojekt (projektledare Frida Sandberg), rapport publiceras efter konferensen.

Det var intressant att höra hur IAAP arbetar med certifiering av organisationer, företag, lärosäten och även gärna arbetar med universitet kring lärandemål etc.

Mycket korta reflektioner från dagen i punktform:

  • Man arbetar med studentcentrerat lärande och peer learning
  • Extra viktigt att träna internationella studenter i att ta ansvar för det egna lärandet
  • Ska innehållet ligga som egna kurser/specifikt innehåll eller genomsyra all utbildning? Det ideala vore att det genomsyrade all utbildning, men vi måste kanske trots allt ha det specifika innehållet?
  • Fler institutioner inkluderar innehållet i sina kurser men det är personberoende, det finns fortfarande få exempel på policies, strategidokument etc.
  • Allt som är skapat av människor har en design och inneboende värderingar som styr hur du som människa får möjlighet att vara
  • ”If we understand what the extremes are, the middle will take care of itself” (Dan Formosa i dokumentären Objectified) – skapa inte speciallösningar utan designa för alla
  • Emphatic modeling – genom att uppleva själv skapas större förståelse och incitament för att arbeta inkluderande (tänk UX, service design etc)
  • Tillgänglighet handlar mer om etik och värderingar än om hur man skriver en bra alttext
