I recently heard a conversation between two of my students during a break. One of them was complaining about an extensive group assignment she was given in another class. She didn’t

Introduction, week 1
1. Getting StartedI am way behind in my reading for this course, so writing anything on this blog has not made sense until now. Since I still have some catching up to do, in this entry, I will just comment and reflect on the texts and videos that appea…
Books and gamification
Can a play-based approach encourage kids to read during the summer months?
Topic 1: Reflection
There have been two particular challenges in navigating through Topic 1; firstly, Topic 1 itself, and secondly taking the leader role in fairly unfamiliar territory. I use the world fairly as although there are some general changes, and new (wonderful 🙂 ) people to collaborate with, the concept of PBL and the ‘spirit’ in which […]
Topic 1: Online participation & digital literacies
The first topic had me reflecting on how confident I really am in the digital world… How do I really fit in. I’m generally quite a private person and struggle in sharing information or venturing into the relatively wide world of online and digital network. While I have a Facebook and Instagram account, I haven’t … Continue reading Topic 1: Online participation & digital literacies
Baby steps along the unknown path
Two weeks ago I started the journey to the mysterious world of e-learning on the ONL181 course. I assumed I would find my way with a map and compass as I always have found on my hikes in the wild nature. To be honest, I still don’t know if I’m even on …
Digital literacy and PBL
“Embracing the fog” (Caroline Cruard during PBL8 online meeting) The approach on which this course is based (problem based learning) relies on problems actually being authentic (Hmelo-Silver 2004). The scenario for Topic 1 could not have been more authentic to me! I had technical difficulties at the beginning of both of my online meetings … Continue reading Digital literacy and PBL →
Reflections on Topic 1- The Law of Jante
Reflections on Topic 1 of ONL181 The first topic of the ONL181 course is over. The central theme of topic one was the exploration of digital literacies and skills to navigate in the digital world as an educator. Besides the the provided topic, it was also the first “real” task our PBL-group had to accomplish. …

1,2,3..so I went from communicating online to collaborating online using padlet! This really opened my mind to so many possibilities and ways of using online tools , to not only make your lesson visually appealing and interactive but also keep track of tasks assigned to various participants. We may have gone off the rails a little but in a good way because it also helped us engage and learn from one another. My experience has being positive overall so i look ahead to Topic 2 which will be led by myself and another participant..so watch this space for more reflections..till next week.
Digital literacy – nothing new for me here… Or?
These were my first feelings and thoughts when I started this course. Frustration was another feeling. Will I learn anything useful in this course? After digging into all the material and listening to the webinars I had to admit that I was wrong. Very wrong. I deserve a slap in the face! I’m glad I … Continue reading Digital literacy – nothing new for me here… Or? →
Topic 1
Topic Topic one has come to an end, When I started the course I was excited and nervous at the same time not knowing what to expect. Once we began, I started realising the value that will be gained. The introduction to the fish model has already had an impact on my daily teaching at … Continue reading Topic 1 →
Topic 1: Online participation & digital literacies
Who am I in the digital age? I am very confident in using data analysis software/databases since it is part of my work but I am not really a user of social media. According to David Whites definition I am definitely a Visitor not having an online identity. I do not like to share my … Continue reading Topic 1: Online participation & digital literacies →
Topic 1 – Engaging in course work
I find Problem Based Learning (PBL) a suitable approach to developing course participants’ digital literacy in online settings. The way this ONL18 course is organised is overwhelming at the same time as it is challenging and intriguing. Even if the num…
